Faith Vs. Science: Why It is So Important

No need for me to lecture, just observe, if you will:

Now, let me put this into proper perspective in today's climate and struggle for power:

I'm just sayin'...

I am the Complaint Department Manager and I approve an open mind as to a closed one.

Every time I see that clip of the GOP nominees denying evolution....a little piece of my brain melts.

There is absolutely NO difference between that clip and the religious dolts of the past denying the earth is round and revolves around the sun.

I remember this event like it was yesterday....and, I'm telling you, it is precisely because of crap like this (evolution, stem-cell research, etc.) that the Republicans will forever struggle with independents like myself.......And, no, I'm not entirely sure what would be worse here; the fact that they might be pandering....or the fact that they might actually believe it.

Stuff like that scares the crap out of me. Why are these fundie ideas taking over science and reason?

You know what? I was raised Catholic? I went to Bible study and Christian camp with another church of my own volition (I know it's hard to believe that)and I knew plenty of "born again" folks. None of them told me outright to disbelieve evolution. They were able to handle the cognitive dissonance caused by the Bible and the science textbook. They talked about God's mysteries and plans. They said things like "God's time isn't our time. 7 days may mean something different to Him.

It's scary to think now that you have to believe in strict Biblical interpretation to be considered a Christian now. What's up with that?

Lemmy - Long time, no see. If only there was a way for me to agree with you more...

Dtub - Dude, you do remember that you can call me, right?

Will - I just love the part of that clip where the last hand goes up after looking around first.

Disordered one - It should scare you. If only everyone else saw the seriousness of this issue. Not to mention the MANY revisions of the bible that have been published due to the previous versions not being thought of as being good enough....er, "interepreted" right.

FishHawk - Welcome to the blog! Also, glad to see another Springfield, Mo. blogger at it around this blogosphere. You are most welcome to come by the Progressives meet coming up as well.

The Texas school board works tirelessly to rewrite history and science. The ignorant are much easier to control.
