Still Think Turbo Diesels Aren't Worth A Second Look?

Just when Volkswagen launched its TDI Jettas back in the U.S. market, they've started planning on bringing back the Golf/Rabbit TDI's. A 1.6-liter TDI that will be capable of 62 MPG!

If you're not a fan of VW, then Volvo also plans on putting TDI versions of their C30, S40 and V50 out with a similar sized engine capable of 53 MPG.

If for some reason you still want a gas burner, then you may want to opt for a Toyota version of the Smart-for-two car, the iQ.

This little bugger has a 3 cylinder 1.0-liter gas engine(remember the Geo Metro?) that will get 50-55 MPG. There may be another engine option that they are kicking around that will yield 60 MPG. Of course, the biggest complaint here? Europe gets first crack at this market. Once again, the American consumer gets the shaft.

I'm not stackin' paper like I used to, so my options for buying are nonexistent.

I would seriously have to jump into a tank of melted crisco before squeezing my nearly 6 foot tall chunky frame into that Toyota clown car. It looks like quite the death trap frankly ....

I would love to have a car like that.

I read somewhere that the deisels from Volvo, Volkswagen and maybe even Honda should be in the US by 2010.

Of course, that's "should be".

Caspar - I saw a guy who was easily 6'6" get out of a Lotus Elise. I waited to see if any clowns would follow...

Kim - Yeah, that was the jist of it.

Chatti - Never thought that YOU would be the one to find that angle first. Kim, on the other hand...

Mama Dawg - Join the friggin' club. I just wish I had some money to throw down, dammit.

Limpy - It's the emissions thing. Europe doesn't have such high standards, but then again, the new diesel fuels have less emissions thanks to lower amounts of sulfer and of course biodiesel. Manufactuers and our Govt will be running out of excuses.

Hehe....

You know, I HAVE called it that before! Accidentally. People snickered. I was amused.
