Insomnia Sucks!

I pretty much feel like this little thug of mine right now. I don't know why it is this way, but I can't seem to get my mind to shut the hell up! I do this regardless, but lately it's getting worse and I'm losing sleep over it. For the last few weeks, I've been getting about 4 hours of sleep and IT'S GETTING OLD! Why is it that when I get tired, I feel sleepy...my eyes are getting heavy...but my mind just won't shut it off! I find myself useless the next day and more out of it like as if I was on a Methadone drip. I'm tired and cranky. I need a damn vacation.

I suffer from racing brain insomnia at times. This sounds really stupid but when I can't shut my brain off in the middle of the night I count backwards in my head. The first time I tried it, I started at 100. That was too easy, my brain could do the counting and still race. You have to start with a big number so you have to concentrate. If it's still too easy try the alphabet backwards.

Like I said, I know it sounds stupid, but it worked for me.....and trust me, my brain has had plenty to race about in the past year.

Hope you get some rest soon.

try a half a bottle of generic bailey's or a bottle of generic nyquill.
I have a friend who swears by it.

Ok, Google ate my first post. I'm trying again...

Insomnia sucks. I'm so sorry you suffer with this. I've never had problems with it really but my husband has.

Thank goodness (or not) for the Internet, because it gives you plenty to do in those wee hours of the morning.

I've really been enjoying your comments on my blog lately. Thank your hilarious input!!

Tysgirl, since going back to college, I have a calculator that does that for me now.

Jim, last tried Bailey's and NyQuil...come to think of it, I tried them both at the same time. I woke up in Tijuana with some seniorita calling me "Poppy".

Rhea, Que duerma bien(a la familia) y de nada.

Estoy cansadisimo!!!

Yup, you need a vacation. Sounds like you're stressed out.

Sometimes night shift screws with my sleeping habits. No matter how many years you work nights, your body never really adjusts.

They say that intelligent people need very little sleep. Could this be the case here?

Yea, I feel you on this. My mind does that from time to time and you're right, you definitely lose sleep over it. I typically turn on the tv for a bit and let my mind just kinda wander until eventually I doze off.

I get this too sometimes. Here are some suggestions:

1. Watch TV for a bit.
2. I know it sounds silly, but I literally shhh my brain.
3. Plug in the iPod and listen to Enya, Peter, Paul & Mary, Simon & Garfunkle. Anything smooth and calm and relaxing. I lay with eyes shut and breathe and relax. That's when I shhhh myself.

Sorry about that, guy.

Doc, I'm hearin' ya, I wish I knew what was in my financial aid package so that way I can plan my budget for the semester and find out if I can go anywhere.

Coby, thanks. Both my little thugs are rotten and salt can't save 'em. As for the children's Benadryl, I have the adult formula. I've debated on using one, I just don't wanna start medicating myself just yet, but I may be going there if shit doesn't turn around soon.

Chatti one, I'm not an intelligent person, but I play one on Blogosphere. I wish I could claim intelligence but I am by far way too humble for that...more humble than anyone.

Darius, I would let my mind wander, but it's too little to be let out alone.

Jack, I've tried shushing, but those other voices keep drowning me out, I'm out numbered.

Yeah, that does suck. Take a vacation. Come down here, watch me be stressed out, and maybe that will help. ;-) All ya gotta pay for is gas money, I tell ya!

chamomile tea works.

when I bought my first co-op I could not sleep...I had my own bedroom for the first time since I was like 17. So the Dr. prescribed some crazy pharmaceutical sleep aid that was later documented as the cause for people sleepwalking, sleepdriving, sleepmakingahamsandwich and sleepcursingsomeoneout. When I sw the news story I was scared, I mean, did I do anything like sleepmoonpeople from the 7th floor window of my bedroom? So I switched to herbal remedies and I was out like a light in ten minutes, fully dressed, on the sofa, sitting up ready for duty by 5am.

See if it works...even if it sounds old ladyish : )

Tried Chamomile, didn't work. I really wished it did. It's a great appetite supressor for late night eating, though.

Listen to classical music and read The Good Book. I always get sleepy when I read the good book. Maybe Satan has something to do with it (think Church Lady from SNL).
